Blender for fan anime

Blender (with After Effects) comes of age for toon-shaded, anime-based fan animation. Related sites include a brief BlenderNation article, and the creator's own site. Note the use of physics-engine-driven hair (both videos) and cloth (second video). Note how the hair and cloth are treated as fully-qualified objects which collide with the body geometry instead of intersecting it.
